At Synermetric we are great fans of transparency and the sharing of knowledge. It governs how we run our business inside and out. It's why we strive to work in partnership with our clients, and why we release our eBooks full of expert articles for free. In the 'Behind the scenes' series we aim to give you a clear view into how our company operates and the founding principles that guide our decisions.
In this first installment, our Product Manager Ruth Gibson answers questions about the Synermetric catalogue and its contents.
How do you choose the catalogue products?
We strive to maintain a well-balanced portfolio and seek products that utilise new technologies or unique approaches. Several of the products in our catalogue can apply to the same areas, but we have little head-to-head competition as each tool offers different features and excels in different aspects.
Where possible we look for products with an available API, as we find that tools and assessments integrated together or with organisational systems can often provide the most valuable solution for a development scenario. Part of our business revolves around building bespoke dashboards and web portals for that purpose.
Whenever we consider a new addition to our catalogue we follow a due-diligence process. This involves an in-depth look at the product: experiencing it as users and administrators, evaluating available support materials and documentation, marketing collateral, analysing its validity and reliability data, understanding and undergoing its training process, testing its functionality, and so on. Validity and reliability is especially important for us and heavily influences the products we decide to carry in our portfolio. All assessments in our portfolio have to satisfy our quality standards.
We take all that information together and make an assessment on the suitability of a product for our portfolio. We also seek the opinions of our clients and our network of Experts along the way. Altogether this leads to a rigorous process for selecting new products for the catalogue which will most benefit and provide the best choices for our clients.
Who makes the decisions?
As Product Manager at Synermetric I look after the process of sourcing and adding new assessments and products to our catalogue. I manage the process and gain feedback from members of the team at key points in the process. The final decisions come down to a small team including myself, CEO John Dutton, and Business Development Coordinator Kieran Davies.
Is there a connection between the Experts and the catalogue?
Some of our Experts are the authors of tools within our catalogue; others provide advice and training around the products or their focus areas such as selection, team building, coaching and leadership development. Our Experts are part of our wider network of professionals in the areas of talent management.
How do you structure the catalogue?
We believe in using the right tool for the right job. The four areas of selection and recruitment, individual development, team effectiveness, and organisational performance make it clear and simple for people to choose the right assessment or methodology for their requirements. Each product is further identified with an icon representing its particular focus, such as behaviour change, personality, or ability.
What about further developments?
The vision for the catalogue is that it will serve as a ‘one-stop shop’ for talent management professionals looking for products or methods to add value to and aid them in their work. In the last year we have significantly grown our product catalogue and also launched a new website to display them. Over the next year you will see the additions of new products slow down, as we focus on key areas to fill within the portfolio. However, we always keep an eye out for exciting new products entering or building a presence in the market.
